South Korea, India sign mobile cooperation pact

South Korea and India have agreed to work together in the mobile broadcasting sector, paving the way for Seoul to export its DMB technology to India. South Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication said it signed the deal with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of India and India's Tata Group. Tata Group is interested in introducing the DMB service, the ministry said.

South Korea leads the world in the DMB industry, having launched the world's first satellite and terrestrial mobile broadcasting services in May and December, respectively, in 2005.

To help raise awareness of its DMB technologies, the ministry said it would hold a number of demonstrations in India in February 2006 with local government officials and business leaders on attendance.

Last week, the ministry signed an agreement with a Chinese broadcaster to cooperate in introducing DMB services in the world's most populous country.
